True beauty

The most magical encounter I've had with the non-human world was probably when I was six. I was playing in the backyard with my sister when we discovered a turtle that I almost stepped on. We scooped the little guy up and put him in a cardboard box, with some carrots, lettuce, and beans sprouts. At the time, I thought this discovery was fantastic. After all, this was a mutually beneficial relationship, the turtle or "Michelangelo" (named after my favorite Ninja Turtle), had a great little home and I had a new pet I could tell my friends about. The fun lasted for about a day because my mom found it hidden in the corner of my room and wondered why I needed so many carrots. Mind you, the turtle didn't even eat anything! That was the end of our "fun." My mom had put the turtle back in the backyard, free to roam. My grandfather said if we kept the turtle, it would have made a great dinner...turtle soup!!! And he was serious.

I think we should all be concerned with saving nature. We're all part of the same planet and what non-human forms do, often help us. Most of the time, we take the natural processes for granted. If we don't care for nature, who will? I don't consider myself to be a camping or country kind of girl, but nature has a true aesthetic value that cannot be denied. Just as Natalie said, we can't replace what is found in nature.
